The U suffix indicates the short tail swing version (zero tail swing): the upper structure remains within the track width, allowing the machine to work near walls, fences, and roadways without the counterweight hitting obstacles.

Engine and performance

It is equipped with a 4-cylinder Yanmar 4TNV88 diesel engine delivering 28.2 kW at 2,400 rpm. According to the Hitachi spec sheet, the operating weight for this series is between 5,040 and 5,370 kg depending on the configuration, with a track width of 2,000 mm and a travel speed of up to 4.2 km/h.

Equipment

Enclosed cab with air conditioning and joystick controls

Short tail swing (U version)

Front blade and boom swing

Auxiliary hydraulic lines on the boom for attachments

Check valves on cylinders

Rubber tracks

New digging bucket

Suitable Applications

At approximately 5 tonnes, the Zaxis 55U is the right size for foundation and utility excavations, pipe laying, connections, urban roadworks, landscaping, and earthmoving. The short tail swing and boom swing allow for digging flush against walls and in tight spaces, while the climate-controlled cab ensures comfort even during long summer days.

It is easily transported on a low loader or a crane truck, and the rubber tracks make it suitable for working on asphalt and paved surfaces.

Looking for another size?
