Pile driver rental: how it works, what is included, and when it is worth it

When rental is the right choice

  • Single or occasional contract: you have a plant to complete and do not foresee other similar work in the near future.
  • Work peak: your machine is already busy on another site and you cannot afford to slow down.
  • Unexpected machine downtime: a replacement is needed on-site quickly.
  • Try before you buy: you want to understand how a model performs on your terrain before investing.
  • Site far from your base: sometimes renting near the site costs less than transporting your machine across the country.

If, on the other hand, you have continuous sites all year round, the calculation changes and it is worth considering a purchase, whether new or used.

Rental formulas

Rental is generally structured on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, with rates decreasing as the duration increases. For some equipment, there is also the possibility of hire purchase: what you have paid is deducted from the purchase price if you decide to keep the machine. If you are interested in this formula, ask immediately if it is available for the model you need, as it is not automatic for all vehicles.

A distinction that causes confusion in the Italian market: “dry hire” means only the machine, which you operate with your own personnel. “Wet hire” means the machine plus a specialized operator. These are two different services and two different prices: clarify which one they are quoting you before comparing two estimates.

What to check before signing

  1. What is included in the rate: round-trip transport, insurance, routine maintenance, included working hours, and the cost of excess hours.
  2. Who pays in case of breakdown and how quickly a replacement arrives: a three-day downtime on a deadline-driven site costs more than any savings on the rental rate.
  3. Hammer energy: check that it is suitable for your terrain and your piles; for solar plant piles, work is generally between 950 and 1,200 Joules.
  5. Documentation: CE certification and the user manual must travel with the vehicle.
  6. Actual condition of the machine: ask for updated photos and, if possible, a video of the vehicle in operation.

How we work

Request updated availability

Rates and available vehicles change based on the period and the area. The fastest way to get a precise figure is to tell us where you are, how long you need it for, and what type of piles you need to drive: we will tell you what we have, how much it costs, and how quickly it will arrive at the site. And if rental is not the most cost-effective solution for your case, we will tell you.
